CONE - Cramlington Organisation for Nature and the Environment is born.
10 Cramlington schools draw up plans for nature areas with CONE's help:

    Burnside First School
    Eastlea First School
    Shanklea First School
    St. Paul's First School

    Brockwell Middle School
    Parkside Middle School
    Southlands Middle School
    Stonelaw Middle School
    St. Peter's Middle School

    Cramlington High School

CONE organises a "Dead Tree Week" with the help of Plessey Woods Country Park. Rotting logs are delivered to Cramlington schools to aid minbeast studies, as part of National Tree Week celebrations.

Businesses, wildlife agencies and local authorities pledge their support for CONE - a new wildlife partnership initiative for the town of Cramlington. The official launch takes place on 15 October at the premises of Merck Sharp and Dohme.
