Gary Burn is appointed CONE Community Education Officer - a new full time post co-funded by Northern Electric and English Nature. Schools are helped to make best use of their areas in the context of the National Curriculum. |

North East Water donates a van to CONE. Fasson arrange the tasteful external decor, which inbcludes the name of all CONE partners. Tools for use on CONE sites are donated by Wilkinson Sword. |

CONE schemes are visited by politicians Sir Paul Beresford, Under Secretary of State for the Environment, and Frank Dobson, Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment. |

Tree hugging, minibeasst safaris, nature area tours in French, mapping and woodland surveys are amongst the activities organised by CONE schools to celebrate National School Grounds Day. |

A ceramic mural based on the theme "Wildlife in the Community" is produced by artist Christine Constant during what is "European Nature Conservation Year". The mural incorporates around 50 wildlife images designed by local schools and groups. |
